TAV-616F SE Floorstanding Speaker

Premium Hi-Fi Speaker
Special Edition

The TAV-616F SE speaker is based on the technology of TAV-616F and TAV-606 SE with a couple of significant upgrades to provide the best hi-fi sound in this price segment and often even much beyond.

  • TLIE (Taga Low Interference Enclosure) – a very rigid, neutral to vibrations and colorization enclosure. It is built of thick (15mm walls plus 21mm thick front panel) high-density MDF boards. The TAV-616F SE is available in luxurious 7-layer high gloss white painting, while most competitors in this price range offer PVC laminate which imitates high gloss paint or they paint only selected parts of speaker enclosure;

  • The 2nd generation TPTTD-I (Taga Pure Titanium Tweeter Dome) utilizes a differently shaped and lighter titanium dome as well as a double-magnet structure – it has a higher SPL, faster and more accurate movement of the dome reflecting in more detailed and airy sound;

  • 6.5” glass fiber midrange driver delivers more information with even greater accuracy and definition;

  • 2 x 6.5 polypropylene woofer drivers are very light and have high SPL which results in faster, more accurate cone movement to quickly react to changes in dynamic sound passages;
  • Decorative pure aluminum trim rings and tweeter faceplate (TPAF) to enhance sound dispersion;

  • High-End binding posts, internal OFC wires the same as in the high-end CORAL series;

  • Bassreflex port and terminal box are rubber coated;

  • Elegant, black aluminum spikes and Special Edition logo badge underline unique character of the speakers.

The TAV-616F SE is probably the best hi-fi speaker in this price category with sound and built quality which can be usually found in much more expensive designs.

"Given the high specification of build and finish you’d expect a commensurately high asking price…Wow I was shocked!
I haven’t seen such quality at this price and TAGA live up to their ethos of providing superb quality at real world prices. Well done."

The Sound
"The TAV -616 F-SE proved the least fussy speakers I have ever tried out from brand new and sounded great from the off…
I was greeted with a clear even handed sound from top to bottom with no bass over hang or boom. A credit then to the designers and quality of the speaker….

They provided a tight and clean sound and could handle power with aplomb. I tried my Meridian 556 with them, a Densen B-150 and a set of Temple Audio mono blocks. They all drove the TAV -616 F-SE easily as at 91dB sensitivity and /6-ohm impedance, they aren’t a difficult load…

With a good source and amp these speakers shone producing good stage depth and width and it was easy to hear what was going on in the mix. Tiny details and subtle effects could plainly be heard thanks to the drive units’ design and the attention to detail of the whole cabinet.

As well as good deep controlled bass, the mid-range was open and uncoloured and the treble was never harsh. Overall a great sound balance which for the price is superb. I have heard a lot of speakers over the years and few achieve this quality even at high prices…

So, in conclusion an excellent speaker to suit all tastes of music which are versatile and will work well in hifi or AV systems…"

AT A GLANCE
Sound Quality: Excellent, easy on the ear covering top to bottom without any issues.
Build Quality: Excellent.
Value For Money: Superb, as you not only get excellent build, but also a great sound.

Great sonic performance
Good build and finish

The weight when packaged in one box makes them too heavy to handle unless there are two of you. TAGA are going to address this issue and box them individually in the future.

The modern piano white finish will not suit everyone’s taste. (Alternative options would appeal more, although I am nit picking here)

The character of sound is defined by its exceptionally strong midrange with its accent shifted towards the high frequencies; it is not even an accent, it is the epicenter, the center of vitality and communicativeness. There are no other speakers that sound so directly, distinctly and aggressively not only in this group but in the further range as well.
It's a clear, though a little intriguing message; finally it is unique and can be treated as a rare opportunity (regardless of the price) to hear music in this way…
The TAV-616F SE highs are subordinate to the mids which usually means sound which is close, but warm or even dark.
The TAGA's sound shines like brushed metal, not like chrome, it's not smooth, it abounds with roughness,, sometimes it almost brushes, but only when it fits with the music - and it fits quite often - then the emotions are exceptional.

TAGA put emphasis on the resolution. As the result the applied refinements heighten even more the feeling of detail and speed. Playing with a "spark", which will well come true in music, where it is rather desirable (rock, electronic music).
The lower band of the frequency range is, like the rest, contoured, impulsive and well stressed.
The low frequencies appear quickly, and when it is necessary they are rapidly suppressed - the bass seems to be more noticeable than in the previous model (the regular TAV-616F).
We were nicely surprised while listening to solos from the Dave Brubeck album "The Dave Brubeck Quartet at Carnegie Hall" in the song Castilian Drums, where Joe Morello gives an incredible show of his skills. With ease you can feel the energy that the drummer wanted to convey to the audience.
The 616s don't bring in any mess, don't get lost and are not insistent, while listening to the music with the volume turned up highly. On the contrary, they get a new life, as if someone pressed a turbo button on the rear panel.
In contrast to the previous model which turned our attention to the male voices, in here we were more impressed by the female voices. It was very pleasant to listen to the Agnes Obel album "Aventine". We had the impression that the singer was singing for us, enchanting us with her voice.
This confirmed our belief that Taga Harmony, creating an upgraded version of the TAV-616F, mainly improved the details. All kinds of minutiae such as: inhale and smacking of lips are well heard. The same is true in the case of cymbals or bells. They sound long enough, we have no doubt of what material they are made of - the used tweeter is really a step forward. The music sound stage is well perceptible. All instruments are well placed on it, there is no problem with fuzzy virtual sources, everything has its place.”

The Special Edition  of the TAV-616F is a product that puts the TAGA product even higher in the hierarchy…
One more time the speaker manufacturer shows us clearly that it wants to develop and improve its products, which is not just an empty slogan, what we have acknowledged personally. From day to day the circle of customers interested in their products grows, and we are pleased to observe the development of the company. What can I say, they are well priced products, presenting a high level of build quality, and most importantly, they sound really good in their price range!  Recommended!
